The Citadel Theatre
In December 2020 MD Creatives proudly took over as tenant at The Citadel Theatre in St Helens.
We are blessed to be part of this iconic buildings’ journey and want to ensure that its huge history and legacy is remembered as well as continues to grow.
The Citadel Theatre was once home to the Salvation Army and we take great pleasure in sharing their values which also reflect across MD Creatives, such as hope, support, and love. We want to honour these values by inviting people in to utilise the space, talk, be creative and more.
It is a beacon of light within the St Helens community, and we are excited to sustain alongside expand the venue through a three-way approach.
We want to make use of the space that The Citadel Theatre has to offer and open it up to be a community arts centre, where we can bring together as well as collaborate with other organisations. Through the pandemic many community arts organisations lost their facilities, and we want to change that. This will be made possible through the work that MD Creatives does for their community engagement, which will also shine a light on the talent that St Helens has to provide.
Within education and training we want The Citadel Theatre to become a centre of excellence for performing arts, theatre, theatrical hair and make-up, box office, marketing, finance, programming, and costumes. Through the pandemic we saw a lack of opportunities for young people and adults to gain work experience, have internships and learn – which is why we want to facilitate this through our programmes.
The Citadel Theatre is known for what it provides commercially, such as live music, shows, comedy, tribute acts, guest speakers and more. We are ready to fill it again with these, bringing the performance and music venue back to life for all of the community to enjoy.
